I'm playing my first game and have figured most things out but the one thing i'm having trouble with is how to deal with enemy heroes. They are chasing down my armies and doing all sorts of annoying things and I can't seem to do anything about it.I've got my own heroes but they don't seem any use, assassinate is either too low or fails. Is there some other way to deal with enemy heroes?Overall i'm loving this game but this one aspect is really bugging me and i'm finding it really frustrating. Hopefully i'm overlooking something and someone can help me out.Thanks. Try to ensure that you're in a limited amount of wars. The computer AI may send heroes at you in peacetime, but not as persistently.Have a few heroes of your own, for a spot of assassination or guard duty, as mentioned. Note that you can assign followers to your heroes, which can help their skills. If all else fails.
Declare war on their home power and stamp them into the ground. 'Faction Destroyed' eliminates 100% of their wandering heroes. And yes, if you still find them too annoying, there are mods to take them down a peg or six. Chances are too low if you are trying to do it with new hero but almost every hero have a skill which allows them to get good bonus to assasination.

And they could get some good entourage characters who will also give you nice bonus. In my last Empire playthrou i had pretty good capitain assasin with 70-80% chance of succes (and yet he managed to screw up half of the attempts anyway). But it also cost much more if you have high chance of succes.Just destroy/make alliance with that faction it should remove enemy agents from your borders. Some skills decrease chance of enemy succes.
Warhammer Total War Hero Quests
OK it sounds like I have some options to look at. I was just trying to use any old hero to take out the enemy hero but it sounds like I need to train them appropriately.I'm playing Dwarfs at the moment, not sure if that makes any difference, so do I need to get a certain type of hero or can I train any? What skills should I look at, someone mentioned 'guard', is that a skill? If I want one hero to be an assassin and another a bodyguard, how do I go about setting this up?Ah yeah, once I know what skills I need what's the best way to level heroes up? Unwrella for 3ds max cracked. I had one deployed at my city giving some benefitbonus, do they level up doing this sort of stuff or do I have to have them fight? Thanks for the feedback, it's very helpful.

I played them some month ago. As far i remember there was no real Assasin Hero.
But i might be wrong on that.Usualy every Faction has one Hero that has Spy as first still at the Blue Skill line at the bottom of your skills. After the first skill 'Spy' there is a skill called Assasin you can spend 3 Skillpoints on.
(raise the chance of killing an enemy hero)The same Hero usualy has the Bodyguard Skill. Gives +3%, +9% and +15% reduce the chance the enemy hero has success on harming the Army he is in.There is another skill, i dont know the name, that raise the chance the enemy hero is wounded if he trys to harm your army. But even non assasin Heros have usualy one skill that raise the chance of killing an enemy hero. The hero system is a minigame unto itself.
You almost always want to start out by making the first 2-3 heroes you recruit into agents rather than fighters - traiting them out to deal with both other agents and to do a little harrassment of your own to enemy armies and cities. And remember to use them for the positive benefits. Things like 10 percent discounts on all building upgrades in a province can make a huge deal.Once you start looking at it that way, the game becomes a little deeper, imo.To answer your last question, it seems like every faction gets a random agent early on - that is truly random. In addition, the first generic quest battle for some factions gives a set hero (Empire I know for sure gives a mage and VC gives a necromancer). Yes I noticed some nice benefits having them deploy to settlements but my problem at the moment is to try and stop the enemy heroes which are really irritating.I've now got 2 low level heroes and i'm trying to work out what I should do to make them assassins to take out the enemy heroes. My first hero is a runesmith and i've just taken a look at his skill tree and can see a skill called 'Dreng Rhunki' which is the skill that increases the assassinate chance. The problem is that this is the very last skill in the tree so this will be no use until much later in the game when it might be too late.My next hero is a Thane.

The only skill I could see here to help me take out an enemy hero is the 'Champion' skill but again this won't be available for quite a while as it's in the middle of the tree. Even when I get to this skill it can only be levelled up once and it just give me an increase of 8% to assassinate so it seems most of the time i'l be unlikely to take our the hero even then. There must be a reliable way to counter to this?So i'm still left with the question how do I stop enemy heroes? Only 33 turns into the game then I get this grudge I need to complete - 'carry out a SUCCESSFUL assassination attempt on the greenskins'.The chance of success are so low I don't even know how to go about this.
If I attempt it and then my hero gets damaged they are out the game for 5 or 6 turns.I really don't want to have to turn to using mods and would rather learn how this game mechanic is supposed to work but if the answer is to just spam the assassinate button on my hero with little or no chance to win then I guess i'll have choice but to turn this feature off with a mod. You can save and reload for better result and you should know Hero in this game are Broke AI can have 10+ Hero because they are cheating.
