The Witcher 3 is an exceptional RPG and arguably one of the best games of all time. But while the game feels nearly perfect as it is, there are always a few things that could be improved. Luckily, there are quite a few Witcher 3 mods out there that you can use to spice up your game a bit. Whether you want better textures, new features, quality of life improvements or more blood, you can bet there’s probably a mod out there that offers what you’re looking for. There are literally thousands of mods out there to choose from so finding the best ones can get a bit tricky. Don’t worry, though, because we’re here to help.
Today we’re going to take a look at some of the most useful and interesting mods currently available as of 2019. To make things a bit easier for you, we’re sorting all these mods by category so you can scroll down to the section you’re most interested in if you’re looking for something in particular. Models and Textures The Witcher3 HD Reworked Project Image: nexusmodsIf you’re looking for a mod that reworks and enhanced countless textures throughout the game, look no further than The Witcher 3 HD Reworked Project.
This highly ambitious and popular mod touches upon many aspects of the game that you didn’t even know needed graphical improvements. This includes a lot of small things like walls, rocks, waterfalls, torches, cages, books, and many many more. Vanilla Witcher 3 looks very good overall, we can all agree on that. However, upon closer inspection, you’d be surprised how many low-quality textures were present in the original game.
Well, not any more thanks to this mod.Blood Image: nexusmodsBlood is one of the simplest mod on this list but doesn’t underestimate its impact. This mod retextures blood effects in order to create much more noticeable spray effects while in combat. Blood is definitely pretty gruesome and not for the faint of heart, however, it does add a touch of brutal realism to the game. After all, there’s bound to be plenty of blood flying all over the place when Geralt is chopping off limbs and decapitating people. This mod works well hand in hand with another similar one called More Blood, which is pretty self-explanatory.Fera’s Roach and Horse Overhaul Image: nexusmodsWe all love Roach but let’s be honest, he doesn’t really stand out from all the other horses in the game in terms of appearance. This mod changes that by adding 75 unique new skins for our favorite travel companion.
Admittedly, most of these skins aren’t exactly lore-friendly but this mod isn’t really about immersion at the end of the day. Every once in a while, you just want to ride on a zebra or an electric unicorn. This mod lets you do just add and a lot more.Visuals and Graphics Super Turbo Lighting Mod Image: nexusmodsThis is a mod that attempts to recreate the look of the Witcher 3 when it was first revealed back at E3 2014. It does this by simply adjusting the overall lighting of the game, which makes a pretty huge difference as it turns out.
As an added bonus, this is one of several mod that also remove the lens flare from the sun and gets rid of the dirty lens effect.Increased Draw Distance Image: nexusmodsThe Witcher 3 has a massive open world that features plenty of beautiful environments to gaze at. Too bad your enhanced Witcher eyes don’t appear to see farther than regular human eyes, right? Well, now they do. This mod does exactly what it says and increases the draw distance, allowing you to stare into the horizon farther than ever before.Hairworks on Everything but Geralt Image: nexusmodsNvidia’s Hairworks feature for The Witcher 3 made all types of hair look more realistic but it also lowered your FPS by quite a bit in the process. Just as its name indicates, this mod removes the feature from Geralt’s hair but keeps it for everything else, such as monsters and animals. Geralt’s bright white hair didn’t look that great with that feature to begin with so you’re not missing out on much there. You do, however, get to marvel at monsters and animals in all their hairy glory with this mod installed.
Just before you slay them, of course.Gameplay Changes Fast Travel From Anywhere Image: nexusmodsThe fast travel system implemented by CD Projekt Red can be used only when the player is near one of the game’s signposts. While there are plenty of signposts scattered all over the world, it’s sometimes a hassle to find one if you’re out in the wilderness.
With this mod, you won’t have to waste time looking for nearby signposts anymore. Just as its name indicates, the mod lets you fast travel from anywhere in the world and saves you some time in the process.Slots Slots SLOTS Image: nexusmodsAs I’m sure you’ve already guessed, this mod is all about slots. More specifically, it adds extra slots for skills and mutagens. There are multiple versions of this mod to choose from, depending on how many extra slots you want and when you want to unlock them. This is one of those Witcher 3 mods that can affect gameplay in some fairly significant ways so it might be better to go for the Balanced version of the mod if you don’t want to become too overpowered too quickly.AutoLoot Image: nexusmodsA very simple and straightforward mod that will make your life easier while playing The Witcher 3. AutoLoot allows you to take items from containers without having to deal with any tedious popup menus. The mod comes with various filtering options so you can set what sort of items you want it to affect.
For example, you may want to auto loot any ingredients you come across but don’t want to do the same for all weapons and armors as that would fill up your inventory pretty quickly.Disable Storybook Videos Image: nexusmodsThis mod disables the recap videos you would normally get whenever you load a game. Despite its simplicity, this is definitely a must-have mod that every Witcher 3 player should consider installing. There’s also a version of the mod that disables the videos but keeps the intro.Character Changes High-Quality Faces Image: nexusmodsThe purpose of this mod is to make NPC faces a bit easier on the eyes. This includes not just main characters like Triss or Ciri but also most of the common NPCs you come across while playing the game.
The mod does this by increasing to the max the level of detail for faces and also increasing the draw distance of the eyes by 10 times. The eyes, in particular, look great with this mod and appear a lot more lifelike.Lore-Friendly Witchers Image: nexusmodsIn spite of their unique skills that allow them to hunt gruesome monstrosities, Witchers are seen as monsters themselves by most common folk and are despised for it. However, the witchers you see in-game don’t quite look like the mutants they’re made out to be.
This mod fixes that by giving all witchers a paler and sicklier skin complexion and eyes that look even more like those of a cat. In short, the witchers look more like Geralt did in the original installment and like they are described in the books. All NPC Scabbards Image: nexusmodsAll NPC Scabbards is one of those mods that introduce a bit of extra realism to the game.
It always seemed pretty strange that Geralt was the only person in the game who thought about keeping his swords tucked neatly inside their scabbards. Meanwhile, pretty much everyone else was walking around with their weapons hanging freely. That’s no longer an issue. This mod adds scabbards for every sword in the base game and its two expansions.User Interface All Quest Objectives on Map Image: nexusmodsA very useful mod that allows you to see all your active quest objectives on your map. Normally, the map only shows the location of the quest you are currently tracking. With this mod, you can track multiple quests at a time and see all of them on the map complete with title, description, and suggested level.
The mod only shows quests that you already have in your journal so no need to worry about spoiling quests that you haven’t discovered yet. In addition, it also supports custom icons for quest pins and colored map markers for important objectives.Friendly HUD Image: nexusmodsThis mod adds an extra set of menu options that you can use to configure the HUD in various ways. Among other things, you can switch off the minimap or the health bar for a more immersive experience while exploring. The mod also adds 3D markers for NPC and quest tracking. More importantly, though, Friendly HUD also adds quick slots for all your oils, potions, and bombs, all of which can be accessed when you open the Signs menu.AMM – The Appearances Menu Mod Image: nexusmodsAMM lets you change the appearance of pretty much everything related to Geralt directly from the main menu. This includes his hair, beard, weapons, armor, accessories, and much more.
The main highlight, however, is that it won’t change any of your stats in the process. This means you can still benefit from all the buffs you get from that full set of Witcher armor but now you can make it look like an entirely different set. Same goes for everything else. The mod even works with Roach. Also Read: Weapons and Armor Unrestricted Witcher (and Crafting) Gear Image: nexusmodsThis mod removes the minimum level requirements for all pieces of Witcher Gear you can find in the game. That way, you can equip the gear as soon as you find it and won’t have to wear random pieces of armor ever again. You are a Witcher after all, so you should always look like one and wear appropriate gear.
That said, this is one of those Witcher mods that can make your character a bit overpowered in the early game so just keep that in mind.Durable Weapons N’ Armors Image: nexusmodsWitchers are supposed to have some of the best weapons and armors around. And yet, you often have to repair your gear after every couple of quests. This makes all the gear you find a lot more durable, though not indestructible. You’ll still need to repair your weapons and armor, just not nearly as often.Witcher 2 Gear Image: nexusmodsDo you ever miss some of the cool gear you got to play around with in The Witcher 2?
Well, you don’t have to go back and play the second installment because now you can also get most of that gear in The Witcher 3. This mod replaces a large portion of the common TW3 gear you come across with equivalent items from TW2.
The mod also improves some of the textures and meshes of these items to make them look like they were designed for The Witcher 3 all along.Inventory and Items Over 9000 – Weight Limit Mod Image: nexusmodsThis is one of the most helpful Witcher 3 mods out there, albeit some might see it as cheating. The mod bumps Geralt’s maximum inventory weight limit up to a whopping 9000. This is pretty much the equivalent of having no weight limit and means you will never get over-encumbered. Unless, of course, you decide to carry around with you single every item in the entire game.Better Trophies Image: nexusmodsCollecting monster trophies is one of the best parts of The Witcher 3. Unfortunately, the bonuses you get for carrying them around with you aren’t all that great. This mod fixes that by replacing all the boring bonuses with new unique ones that are actually useful.Enchantments for all Gear Types Image: nexusmodsThis might be one of the most overlooked Witcher 3 mods on this list. However, it can also be one of the most useful ones depending on your playstyle.
The mod simply adds the ability to enchant boots, gauntlets, and trousers in addition to weapons and armor. Adding a bunch of new enchantments to your gear can make you a lot stronger in battle. However, it can also make you too overpowered so use it with care.
