He's a very talented rapper, performer, and lyricist, and he's able to make great music in a few different forms. A lot of people say he's corny or his flows are weird/offbeat. I think that his flow style and his use of linguistic tools are unique and show that he's a well-educated, very talented artist.Basically, I'd break it up into 2 time periods.

Old Big Sean and new Big Sean.Old Big consists of all 3 Finally Famous mixtapes (released from 2007 to 2010) and the Finally Famous album (2011). They all have a sound that is very similar to Kanye's earlier work (The College Dropout to Graduation). (If you don't know the story about how Big Sean got discovered, you should read - it's really cool and explains the huge Kanye influence.) Out of the three Finally Famous mixtapes, the third one, 'Finally Famous Vol. 3: Big' is the best, easily (he actually diverges from the Kanye sound, but goes back to it on the album IMO). Lots of songs on it that launched him from underground to almost mainstream. If I were you, I'd listen to the whole mixtape, but some of the best songs IMO are,. Then there's the Finally Famous album.

Overall a pretty good effort, though not everybody's cup of tea. If I were you I would listen to, and.Then there is new Big Sean. This is from his Detroit mixtape that dropped in 2012 until present. Overall, he has started experimenting with many different sounds/beats, and he has diverged from the early Kanye-esque type of stuff. He's starting to find himself. Let's start with the Detroit mixtape.

A lot of people say that this is his best work - definitely worth listening to the whole thing. I remember when this shit dropped. Detroit went crazy.

I live and go to school in Detroit, the fall semester just started. I swear, you could not walk down the sidewalk to class without hearing a car go by the was bumping one of the songs of that mixtape. Anyways, some of the best songs are (my favorite song ever of his),. Then there was Hall Of Fame in 2013, his second studio album - a huge flop commercially, and lots of people hated on it. I FUCKING LOVED THIS ALBUM.

I don't care what anyone says. This album and it's two little motivational speeches in and got me through some dark days.

I understand why people hate on it. The middle section of the album seems misguided to say the least, but still, some great material on this album. Listen to some of it if you have the interest.

Next, as the whole world knows, he dropped IDFWU, and 3 other lesser known singles in fall of 2014. All incredible songs that really show his talent and that he's maturing as an artist. Still might be the dopest shit I have ever listened to, and is amazing.

This was Sean's first #1 album. I'd listen to the whole deluxe album all the way through, if I were you. Most of the album is really Sean at his best. The album flows very well, it has some bangers like and IDFWU, but also some realer songs like (you need to watch live performance of it) and.If I had to tell you to listen to only 2 projects, I'd say the Detroit mixtape and Dark Sky Paradise.I could go much much farther into detail on BIg Sean and all of his work, but this is a quick synopsis. I've been to a couple concerts, met him, talked to him for a bit, got some shit signed. He's the coolest and he reps my hometown (Detroit) well.
