Group ProgramThe program is designed to help boys and girls ages 5-16 developself-confidence, self-esteem, and improve social skills. Childrenenrolled in an activity group are placed in groups whose members arecomparable in age, physical skill, developmental level, cognitiveabilities, and social/emotional maturity.Each child'sself-esteem and social skills may be enhanced because he or she isin a supportive, safe, encouraging environment in which rapport andtrust are built up not only with the counselor but also with fellowgroup members. Self-confidence is also fostered by structuring thegroups and activities so that each child can have fun whileexperiencing concrete success.The activity groups range in length of time from 40 to 70 minutesand in composition from two to seven members.
